Voting abroad is not possible in the 2016 South African elections

22nd Feb 2016 in News

We’ve been getting lots of questions about whether it’s possible to vote abroad in the upcoming local elections.
As the election taking place in South Africa this year is a Local Municipal Election you will only be able to vote at the local voting station in South Africa where you are registered, and so cannot vote abroad.
If you reside in South Africa and are travelling abroad over this time you may be able to apply for a special vote. To find out if you’re eligible for a special vote visit: http://www.elections.org.za/content/For-Voters/Special-votes/
The next national election will be in 2019 at which time South Africans voting abroad will be able to vote. Please ensure that you are registered to vote and have both your ID book and passport with you in order to vote abroad.
