DIRCO Confirms Overseas Voter Registration is Open

The DA Abroad welcomes the Department of International Relations and Cooperation’s (DIRCO) recent instruction to South African missions abroad, to allow South Africans living overseas to register to vote for the upcoming National Elections.

YOUR VOTE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. REGISTER TO VOTE TODAY!

The 2019 general elections will be the most important since the first democratic election in 1994. Every vote can make a difference and the DA would like to encourage all South Africans abroad to register to vote.

It is essential for South Africans living abroad to get registered. This will ensure that we build One South Africa for All.

If you have voted before, it is not necessary to re-register to vote abroad. You can simply check your registration status on the IEC website.

If you are registered to vote in South Africa, there will be an opportunity to inform the IEC that you plan to vote abroad by submitting a VEC10 form after the President announces the date of the election.

If you are not yet registered to vote, you can apply to register at your nearest South African Embassy, High Commission or Consulate-General during their normal office hours (see http://www.dirco.gov.za/ for locations and contact info). Please note that it is not possible to register or vote at honorary consulates or liaison offices.

In order to register abroad, you will have to apply in person and have the following documentation at hand:

• An ID document or Smart ID card or Valid Temporary ID Certificate (TIC)
• A valid SA passport (i.e. not expired)

If you have any problems registering to vote, please contact the DA Abroad (contact@da-abroad.org) so we can address the matter and get you registered as soon as possible.

Ahead of the elections in 2019, it is expected that there will be overseas voter registration weekends for South Africans abroad. Once these dates are made public, we will share this information via our website and our mailing lists.

As South Africans abroad, we have a key part to play in our country’s future.

South Africa is facing a myriad of social, political and economic challenges and the DA is the only party that has the political will to turn things around for the better.

No matter where you are in the world, you have the responsibility to go to the polls and make your voices heard.

Your vote can make a difference. Register Today!

Please email contact@da-abroad.org if you have any questions about registering and voting abroad.
