Herewith follows the procedure for the DA Abroad Regional Forum Elections.
The DA Abroad Executive Committee may group Country Networks into organisational regions and establish Regional Forums in order to promote the organisation and objectives of the DA Abroad in the Region’s area of jurisdiction.
As it stands the DA Abroad currently have five (5) Regional Forums:
- Americas
- Australasia
- Asia
- Europe
- Middle East & Africa
The DA Abroad Regional Forums comprise the following ex-officio representatives: all the Country National Organising Chairpersons, all the National Organising Deputy Chairpersons and all the DA Abroad Country Representatives in that region.
The Regional Forum will elect the following office bearers annually:
- The Chairperson (who will act as the Regional Forum Representative on the DA Abroad Executive Committee, or his or her designate),
- The Deputy Chairperson
- Treasurer
- The Secretary
These elections will be overseen by the:
- Presiding Officer – a person independent of the DA Abroad who is also a member of the DA and familiar with its regulations;
- DA Abroad Elections Fiduciary Oversight and Governance Committee (EFGC) – to provide an external to the DA Abroad verification that the elections are conducted as is required by the DA and by the relevant regulations. This committee will include (a) The Presiding Officer, (b) The Deputy Federal Executive Chairperson and the (c) FHO Fiduciary officer, or their delegates
- DA Abroad Election Working Committee (EWC) – which serves as the main point of contact and election committee for the elections, who will ensure all of their actions and decisions are verified by the EFGC
It is recommended that the first sitting of the Regional Forum take place within three weeks of the election results of the National Organising Committees and Country Representatives being announced.
Any member of the DA Abroad who is a member of a Regional Forum may nominate themselves to stand for any of the positions of that Regional Forum they are a member of.
Elections will take place at the next available convening of the respective Regional Forums. Candidates will nominate themselves and voting will take place if necessary.
Any member of the DA Abroad who is a member of a Regional Forum may vote in the election of representatives of that Regional Forum they are a member of.
If only one eligible nomination is made for any position, those nominees will be elected to those positions automatically. If no nominations are received for a position, then the members of the Regional Forum may elect a person to that position.
