We receive a lot of emails from South Africans living abroad asking if they can vote in national elections, what they need to do to vote and how they can vote, amongst many other question, so we've put together this basic guide based on our knowledge and experience during the 2009 national elections.

DA Abroad launches campaign to prepare South African citizens living abroad to vote in 2014 elections

The Democratic Alliance Abroad (DA Abroad), the global network of Democratic Alliance supporters overseas, in February launched its campaign to encourage South African citizens living abroad to prepare to vote in the South African general elections in 2014.

These are fundamental cornerstones of a healthy democracy and a transparent government. The ANC have recently put forward two documents that threaten these freedoms.

This is our first campaign as the DA Abroad and it’s an opportunity for us to make a difference. We cannot stand by and let the independence of the National Prosecuting Authority be compromised by the Government. It is our fundamental protection against state abuse and corruption. Without an independent NPA, there is no one who can keep an eye on government officials.
